Congratulations you’ve made it to Week 6 – you are halfway there already!
How is your skin feeling? Can we help with any other information?
As we start to go into a maintenance phase, don’t panic! We are not leaving you on your own – next week we move into six weeks of positive maintenance of your new healthy skin.
Aging is something that happens to all of us, how we choose to face it, is up to us. Nothing beats feeling healthy and confident in your own skin, even when hormones, aging or lifestyle have taken their toll, and wrinkles start appearing!
At Au Natural Skinfood we are all about celebrating people’s individuality and about cherishing those little imperfections that make us unique – as long as the health of the skin, body and mind are not compromised. We believe every human in the world should have the confidence to go “au natural”.
But our skin, like the rest of our body, changes during different stages of life and the transition to a new phase can make it a bit temperamental. That’s why this week, we’re giving you an essential guide to understanding your skin as it ages, and how to best treat it.
Oestrogen peaks during your twenties, giving most women a luminous, taut, and even-toned complexion. Despite this, the shift in hormone levels around your period can lead to unwanted breakouts or even acne. Throughout the month, oestrogen masks the oil-producing effects of testosterone, but when oestrogen dips during the week leading up to your period, newly dominant testosterone makes its presence known in the form of breakouts and blemishes.
There are no wrinkles in sight during this phase, although more oil production, larger pores, and breakouts along the jaw line might appear during your period. Even women who have never had a pimple could have early onset of adult acne at this age.
As you feel a new spot developing, spot treat with Au Natural Skinfood’s On The Spot – Spot Gel and make sure you are eating plenty of wholesome food. Apply also Dr Au Concentrates – Facial Anti-Aging Oil before your moisturizer and don’t be fooled by the anti-aging definition! This product regulates oil production and nourishes compromised skin, without feeling heavy on the skin.
Au Natural Skinfood’s AM Day Serum is light and highly absorbent, working fast to solve common skin problems and strengthen the skin.
During your 30’s, oestrogen levels start to dip, heralding sinking levels of skin-tightening collagen, elastin and skin-plumping hyaluronic acid. Cell turnover slows down too, and skin bounces back less easily from inflammation.
What It Looks Like
Dryer, thinner skin, more obvious traces of expression lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, the beginnings of age spots, and an increased flaring of inflammatory conditions like rosacea and occasional acne.
Ramp up your anti-aging skin regimen especially at night, when skin naturally rests and repairs. We’d suggest using products that are high in Bee Venom. Your skin reacts to Bee Venom as an irritation, which results in increased blood circulation to the deep layers of the skin, stimulating cell regeneration and the production of elastin and collagen to lift, plump and tighten the skin.
Au Natural Skinfood’s PM Night Cream – this natural face moisturizer acts as a magnet, attracting up to 1000 times its weight in water and delivering it directly to dry and thirsty skin.
‘So long, oestrogen!’ During this decade, expect less firmness, elasticity, and moisture. Oestrogen-related bone loss can start to affect your facial structure, leaving you with sunken-looking eyes, slackening skin and deeper wrinkles.
Drying, dulling, hollowing, wrinkles and age spots tend to appear at this time of our life. The loss of elasticity is significant.
Healthy lifestyle choices are recommended at every stage of our life, but in your 40’s they can really slow down the aging process and improve the health of your skin. In addition, a skincare regimen that includes a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, serum, eye cream as well as a daily SPF will significantly help boost elasticity and firmness.
Au Natural Skinfood’s PM Night Cream as a daily treatment until the jar is complete. Manuka honey contains an enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide, a proven antiseptic with unique antibacterial properties, coupled with natural hydrating properties, allowing your skin to heal and repair naturally.
Oestrogen sputters to a halt during menopause and testosterone takes centre-stage. You’ll lose a third of your collagen within the first five years of menopause and with it your skin’s ability to bounce back, moisture and glow. Inflammation also peaks, making skin more vulnerable to skin damage from sun, smoke, and pollution.
Skin thins, dries, deflates and gets looser. Lines and wrinkles become deeper, pores stretch, lids may sag and become hooded, eye sockets hollow, spider veins may become more visible, age spots show up, and small-yet-benign bumps, patches, or skin tags may grow.
It’s time to hydrate, hydrate and hydrate, because without the natural hyaluronic acid that comes with oestrogen, your skin doesn’t hold onto moisture. Don’t use harsh soaps (switch to Au Natural Skinfood’s Remove Gentle Facial Cleanser and lower the temperature of your showers.
Try Prepare Spray On Brightening Lotion (toner) it works wonders on age spots! – and Au Natural Skinfood’s AM Day Serum, which will give you deep nourishment and a light glow. If you don’t know where to start, the whole Au Natural Skinfood range is rich in nourishing and regenerating ingredients that target the deep layers of the skin.
Grape seed extract has a long history of use for health purposes, dating right back to ancient Greece. In those times, it was used to treat various ailments including infections, inflammations, and digestive issues. The reason these ancient civilizations found the extract so effective is largely due to its high natural concentration of resveratrol, a compound which is known to boost the immune system and improve blood circulation.
The extract itself can be obtained by pressing the seeds of wine grapes, which Au Natural Skinfood ethically sources from manufacturers in New Zealand’s South Island, an area globally recognized for the quality of its wine.
Grape seed extract is a key ingredient in a number of Au Natural Skinfood products, including our AM Day Serum, PM Night Cream and our Collagen Powder- Hair.Skin.Nails. We harness not only its circulation-boosting properties, which help to naturally and gently improve the overall health and condition of your skin, but also for its unique ability to fight free radicals – rogue molecules which break down healthy cells and contribute to aging. Due to its high levels of resveratrol and Vitamin C, grape seed oil is a strong defender of your skin, as it fights aging from within while also encouraging the healing and repair of damaged or broken skin.
I find it interesting that the richest concentrations of nutrients and antioxidants, including resveratrol, are in the grape skin and seeds. The grape flesh contains no more than 5% of the antioxidants found in the skin and seeds. The skin and seeds are a good source of fibre and low in calories.
Au Natural Skinfood has proudly formulated our products with grape seed extract for its many amazing benefits and to aid in the absorption of our hydrolysed type 1 Collagen. We do also love the fact that by using the grape seeds from local vineyards we essentially save them from going to landfill!
This smoothie is great for the whole family, so easy and so healthy, and lots of fibre too!

Our skin whilst we are all effectively the same, does have its own unique personality just like we do.
About our skin…
Our skin is an organ and is as important as our heart or lungs. Our bodies are so clever and aim to repair damage as it happens. However, we rely on being healthy to support our skin and other organs as nature intended. Having healthy skin can be compared to going to the gym. We need to establish healthy habits and daily routines to get the results we desire.
Our skin is the largest organ in our body, performing many vital tasks; it provides a barrier to infection, pathogenic threats and harmful pollution. Despite this, our skin nutrition can often be overlooked and our good intentions to cleanse and fight bad bacteria can go amiss.
Our skin is a microclimate of ‘good bacteria’ necessary to regulate our skin, fight infection and retain moisture. However, with the increasing use of synthetics, preservatives, parabens and sulphates in traditional skincare, our skin’s natural healing and pH balancing abilities can be dramatically decreased, as good bacteria are stripped, and moisture levels depleted.
