Welcome to Week 7 and thank you for choosing to be part of the slow beauty movement.

By using Au Natural Skinfood for the past six weeks, you’ve committed to building the effective habit of a healthy skin care routine and the results are your proof.

So how can you maximize the potency of your program? It’s time to embrace slowing it all down from how you use your products to what you eat, and even the way you eat it It’s time to take the foot off the pedal and chill out a little. At Au Natural Skinfood the slow beauty movement is at our core.

It’s why this week we encourage you to take all the time you need for you and your skin.

This week will have six simple steps for you to follow to help you be more mindful and give slowing down a try.

 

Step one – Join the Community

The slow beauty movement describes people who have lost faith in the ‘quick fix’ of invasive beauty products and procedures. Instead take heart that you are part of a growing sub-culture, who are actively switching to a far more natural, holistic approach to skincare. By choosing Au Natural Skinfood, you’re joining a community of people who believe clean, sustainable beauty is the way of the future.

Step two – Focus on dermo-nutrition

To repair and care for your skin in the maintenance phase, I recommend you focus on dermo-nutrition. What this means is feeding your body with foods to create the environment for a healthy skin barrier. This means a drastic move away from convenience.


Step three – Say no to convenience

Ditch the fast food, the takeaways or the Friday night cocktail. Instead, get acquainted with healthy ingredients and well-being routines that will support healthier skin. You could try squeezing in an extra yoga class, starting the day with a centring meditation or get into the kitchen and get inspired with our tasty Bountiful Bowl recipe.

Step four – Compress to destress

It’s important to keep adding new ideas into your routine to keep things fresh. It’s why I highly recommend trying a hot or cold compress. One of my favorite ways to give my skin a destressing boost is to hydrate with an easy to make, DIY, natural compress (see recipe in tip box below).


Step five – Eat more ferments

I’ve already flagged having a well-functioning digestive system is crucial to maintaining a healthy glow from the outside in. That’s why in the final six weeks of the program, I encourage you to add at least one more fermented food into your daily diet. You could try one to two tablespoons of raw, organic sauerkraut with your meals or topping your granola with coconut yogurt. Both these foods are rich in natural probiotics and are vital inclusions in the diet to maintain good gut health.

Step six – Chew your food

Another excellent way to improve your digestion is to really chew your food. Did you know scientific research has proven that you need to chew hard foods (such as vegetables) at least 30 times before you swallow? This mindful chewing helps the body to release a protein made in the pancreas called amalyse. It helps breakdown your food more effectively.

One of our ‘secret’ ingredients that I LOVE and that really works, is our New Zealand glacial clay found in our Balance Rotorua White Mud Mask.  It has several benefits for your skin, credited to the exceptional levels of minerals formed from the ancient collision of volcanic ash and glacial ice, as well as the small particle size of the clay, which ensures it deeply penetrates the pores of your skin. The abundance of silica and other minerals within our clay are safe and beneficial for all skin types.  It has high absorption levels and leaves your skin soft and strong.

However, some strip surrounding skin of valuable good bacteria and dry out the skin. Our On The Spot – Spot Gel is a prescription strength product without a prescription that works to unblock pores and treat problematic skin gently, and promotes repair without irritation.

On The Spot – Spot Gel needs to be applied on the area of concern for a couple of days and will gently repair the spot and not damage surrounding skin. Apply after extraction, at night and leave on all night. Remove in the morning with a warm compress towel.
For T Zone blackheads and Rosacea, apply to the problem area every day for 10 days, leave on for 30 minutes and then remove with a warm compress towel and then apply your moisturizer.

 

Spoil your skin this week by changing up your routine. Here are two ways that I love to give my complexion a supportive boost:

1. Make a natural compress

• Squeeze the juice of a large lemon into a basin of warm water and soak a large wash cloth or small hand/compress towel.
• After cleansing your skin, apply your DIY compress three to four times.
• Squeeze out the excess water and compress your face with even firm pressure.
This is a sensory and hydrating treat for your soul and your skin.

2. Enjoy a slow skin massage

After I’ve compressed my skin and it is nice and warm, this could also be after a shower. I enjoy gently warming some Dr Au Concentrates Anti-Aging Face Oil No. 1 in my hands and slowly massage it into my skin. I focus on the areas around my eyes, between my eyebrows and above my lips. Not only is there a noticeable difference to my lines and hydration, my skin feels amazing and I feel peaceful and relaxed.

There are four elements to building perfect bowl food – otherwise known in our office as ‘bountiful bowls’. This includes adding high-quality grains, powerful proteins, a generous serving of greens and veggies and then topping off with your favorite dressing.

Hot, cold or a mixture, there is no hard and fast rule to a good bountiful bowl but the one thing –  it must be is packed to the brim with healthy ingredients so it has a full, rounded appearance.
Typically your bowl should look like a rainbow, seasoned to your liking and power-packed with filling nutrients and vitamins that aid weight loss and overall health and well-being.

As a recap, our four essentials are: Remove Gentle Facial Cleanser, Prepare Spray on Brightening Lotion (toner), AM Day Serum and PM Night Cream.

Step 1:

Remove Gentle Facial Cleanser – Rich in Manuka Honey & Avocado Oil

When it comes to our Remove Gentle Facial Cleanser, a little goes a long way.

  • Simply squeeze out a bit the size of an almond, add a drop or two of warm water.
  • Warm by rubbing the cleanser in your hands.
  • Apply cleanser to the face neck and decollete. (safe to use around the eye & lip area)
  • Gently massage the cleanser around the area being cleansed.
  • Use a clean warm flannel to compress the skin and then remove the cleanser.
  • I recommend repeating the above step, if you’ve been wearing make-up. 

Mindful removal

I sometimes also add a little lemon juice or lemon oil to my warm water. If you have a busy life, then those couple of minutes of mindfulness practicing ‘slow beauty’ really makes a difference to your life. 

Step 2:

Prepare Spray On Brightening Lotion (toner) HERO PRODUCT –  Rich in Manuka Honey & Kiwifruit – Antibacterial

  • Either spray directly onto your face or spray a little into clean hands.
  •  Gently pat into your face, neck, decollete, avoiding the eye area. 
  • Leave the skin to dry and then apply your favorite moisturizer.

Hydrate well

Our Prepare Brightening Spray On Lotion (toner) helps to tone, tighten and even out the skin.

If you have very dry skin on your arms and legs, then you can use the brightening lotion to spray, rub in and feel soft and hydrated.

Step 3:

AM Day Serum – Rich in Manuka Honey Moisturizer & Ponga Fern Seed (Apply after cleansing and toning).  You only need a small amount as it will spread easily and will deliciously soak into your skin

  • Dot the moisturizer over the area to be treated.
  • As it warms to your skin, gently rub in.

PM Night Cream – Rich in Manuka Honey and Bee Venom Moisturizer (Apply after cleansing and toning).  This is a thick moisturizer designed for night-time replenishment.

  • Dot, night cream on your face, neck and decollete.
  • As it warms to your skin gently massage in, allowing your skin to repair and regenerate whilst you sleep.

However, we rely on being healthy to support our skin and other organs as nature intended. Having healthy skin can be compared to going to the gym. We need to establish healthy habits and daily routines to get the results we desire.

Our skin is the largest organ in our body, performing many vital tasks; it provides a barrier to infection, pathogenic threats and harmful pollution. Despite this, our skin nutrition can often be overlooked and our good intentions to cleanse and fight bad bacteria can go amiss.

Our skin is a microclimate of ‘good bacteria’ necessary to regulate our skin, fight infection and retain moisture.  However, with the increasing use of synthetics, preservatives, parabens and sulphates in traditional skincare, our skin’s natural healing and pH balancing abilities can be dramatically decreased, as good bacteria are stripped, and moisture levels depleted.
